Two people and a very stubborn spreadsheet
Pixie Papercraft is a small, real business in western Massachusetts. There is no warehouse and no shelf of stock: every book is printed after you order it, and until then it is a file.
It started as a spreadsheet
The first planner was an Excel workbook. Change the year in one cell and the whole thing recalculated — every month grid, every week, every date. Then it was laid out by hand in Affinity Publisher, page by page, and sent off to be printed. That happened once a year, for years, for exactly one person: the designer, who is also the first customer, and who has opinions about where the notes pages go.
The two of us split it the obvious way — one designs the books, one writes the code. This site is that yearly ritual turned into something anyone can use: the same reordering, the same logs, the same fussiness about a week fitting on a page, minus the spreadsheet.
Why two kinds of book
Planners are for the year ahead; keepsake books are for the years behind. They are printed on the same press, built in the same builder, and they are busy at opposite ends of the calendar — planners in the autumn, school books over the summer, weddings through the winter. That is why one small shop can carry both, and why the front page changes its mind about which one to show you depending on the month.
How a book gets made
- You design it, and you see it. The preview in the builder is not an impression of the book — it is the print file. The same render becomes the PDF that goes to the press, so the proof you flip through is the object that arrives.
- We print through a partner. Books are printed and shipped within the United States by our print partner, one copy at a time, made to order. We are not pretending to own a bindery.
- If it comes out wrong, we fix it. A printing or binding defect, or a book that does not match the design you ordered: send a photo within 90 days and we reprint and reship it. Shipping & returns →
