One page for every school year, from the first to the last. Fill in what you can, when you can — half a page written down beats a whole year remembered wrong.

Why this book exists
Where you were living when this began
What you should know before you read the rest
Before school
Everything that came before the first bell. Written from memory, which is the only place most of it lives.

Born at
First word
When you started walking
The names you went by
The thing you would not leave the house without
Your first friend
Where you spent your days before school
What made you laugh back then
Something about you that was already true
The first day of all
The morning you started school for the first time.
Photo
What that morning was like
Who walked you in
The last thing you said before you went in
What the rest of that day was like without you
The first thing you said when you came home
